Grant season has begun! Last week I explained QCA’s online grant application system CueRate. This week I am going to touch on some of the frequently asked questions pertaining to the Queens Community Arts Fund, QCA’s largest grant program. For the full list of frequently asked questions, click here.
What is the Queens Community Arts Fund (QCAF)?
• The Queens Community Arts Fund (QCAF) is the umbrella term for five different grants.
The JP Morgan Chase Art and Culture Regrant Program funds new capacity building requests from organizations with at least a 3 year history as a non-profit organization.
The New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) Decentralization Program and the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) Greater New York Arts Development Fund provides funds for project proposals from non-profit organizations, as well as organizations and individuals with fiscal sponsorship.
The New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) Decentralization Program for Literary and Performing Arts Disciplines provides funds for project proposals from individual composers, choreographers, playwrights, non-fiction and fiction literary artists, poets and spoken word artists.
NYC Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) Greater New York Arts Development Fund for Visual Arts Disciplines provides funds for project proposals from individual visual artists of all disciplines including: fiber, folk arts/traditional, graphics, media arts – film/video, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture.
When is the deadline for the 2011 QCAF grant applications?
• Organization and individual artist applications are due Thursday, September 30, 2010 by 11:59PM.
How do I apply for a QCAF grant?
• Please review all grant guidelines carefully to determine eligibility and take note of application assistance, video tutorials, and other available resources. All eligible QCAF applicants must complete their grant application online using the CueRate e-grant system.
What resources are available to me as I prepare my application?
• Arts Fund Coordinator Katie Tuss is available to answer questions and read application drafts. You may contact her at ktuss@queenscouncilarts.org or 347.505.3019. All requests for review should be made well in advance of the deadline. Applicants may also attend a grant application workshop or one-on-one appointment with a QCA staff member, watch the QCAF video tutorials or download the additional grant resources.
How much time do I have to complete a QCAF funded project?
• QCAF funding is for the calendar year. All proposed projects must be completed between January and December of the year you receive the grant.
What happens after I turn in my QCAF application?
• QCA staff will review your application for completeness and contact you via email if your application is incomplete. Please check your email regularly after submitting your application as you will have a short amount of time to fix any application problems. A panel comprised of 5-7 art administrators, community leaders and artists will review the QCAF applications and decide on funding recommendations. The QCA executive board will review the recommendations and NYC DCA, NYSCA, and JP Morgan Chase will provide final approval.
When will I find out if I received a QCAF grant?
• Letters of notification will be sent before the end of December.
When is the QCAF money awarded?
• Checks will be handed out at the awards ceremony in mid-January.
