New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) Decentralization Program for Individual Artists (fiscal sponsor not required)

This grant, funded by the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), offers support for Queens-based individual artists to create new work directly involving the community. The artist must engage his or her community through active participation in the creation and/or production of the project. The funded project must culminate with a public exhibition or presentation in 2012 that occurs in and is accessible to the general public of Queens. This program is specifically intended to fund projects in any visual arts discipline, including but not limited to: fiber, folk arts/traditional, graphics, media arts – film/video, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture.
Eligibility
• Individual artists must be residents of Queens. (PO boxes and studio addresses not accepted)
• Artists must be at least 18 years of age
• Artists may work in any visual arts discipline, including, but not limited to: fiber, folk arts/traditional, graphics, media arts – film/video, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture
• Individual artists may apply without a fiscal sponsorship
• Funded project must take place within the calendar year of 2012 for a Queens audience
Ineligibility
• Students, full or part-time
• Past recipients who failed to submit a final report or who did not properly credit funding
• Those applying through QCAF organizational support for the same project
• No collaborations, only individual artists may apply
Funding is not available for:
• Recreational, rehabilitative, or therapeutic art programs
• Fellowships or scholarships
• Arts education projects
• Living or general operating expenses
• Equipment
• Acquisitions
• Entertainment costs including openings, receptions, catering, or fundraising
Evaluation Criteria
• Quality and clarity of project
• Artistic merit of submitted work samples
• Degree of public service offered, level of community interaction, demonstrated community interest
• Non-duplication of comparable existing program in the same geographical area
• Demonstration of managerial, planning, and fiscal competence
• Appropriate budget (must show at least 20% of project total expenses funded by other sources)

This grant is intended to fund individual literary and performing artists in the creation of new work, culminating in a public event that must be accessible to the general public of Queens County. This grant is specifically intended to fund composers, choreographers, playwrights, non-fiction and fiction literary artists, poets and spoken word artists. All individual artists are encouraged to apply, including those that represent various ethnic, social, and geographic areas.
Eligibility
• Applicants must be a resident of Queens or have a full-time studio in Queens (PO boxes are not accepted)
• Applicants must be at least 18 years of age
• Applicants may work in any literary and performing art, including, but not limited to: dance, music, theater, fiction and nonfiction literature, poetry, playwriting, spoken word, and folk arts
• Funded projects must take place within the calendar year of 2012 for a Queens audience
• Collaborations will be accepted and will be reviewed as one project

I am interested in applying as an individual artist, though I do belong to a theatre company. If I wanted to apply for a project during 2012, when is the deadline?

Thanks for your question. Unfortunately, the deadline to apply for a QAF grant for projects taking place in 2012 has passed. Please sign up for our mailing list and check the website in the summer for 2013 deadlines and application instructions.
I believe the deadline is Jan 12 or 13, 2012. I am 100% sure.
