Independence Art Builds Community (IABC) is a series of free interactive workshops and networking opportunities designed to promote artistic growth in Queens and strengthen the borough's cultural community. Each event offers participants the chance to work directly with experts in the field, connect with other artists, and acquire valuable knowledge and resources for the development of their artistic careers.

DANCEDOC SLAM
Thursday, March 6, 7:00 - 9:30 PM
A peer-review workshop enabling choreographers and dancers to screen video documentation of their work for critique by experts in the field on the best ways to present to venues and companies.

QUEENS ARTS CONNECTION
Saturday, March 22, 2:00 - 6:00 PM
A networking event for artists and cultural groups that pools the resources of two dozen art services organizations. The day will include presentations, a slide and poetry slam, one-on-one portfolio reviews of pre-selected artists, and an informal reception.

GRANT WRITING BOOT CAMP
Tuesday, April 15, 6:00 - 8:30 PM
An opportunity to learn valuable lessons from experienced grant writers in the private and public sectors. The panel will review pre-selected case studies submitted by participants and share insights on successful grant writing.

HOW TO GET PUBLISHED
Thursday, May 15, 7:00 - 9:30 PM
An expert panel of literary agents, publishers, and established writers discusses the dynamics of the publishing industry and offers strategic advice for literary artists. The panel will provide a critical review of pre-selected pitches.

DANCENOW QUEENS RAW FESTIVAL
DanceNow NYC is hosting a Raw Festival exclusively for Queens-based performing artists on April 13 at the Dance Theater Workshop studios. The Raw Festival studio series provides a no-tech platform for artists to be seen by DanceNow NYC producers and advisors as well as the public. In collaboration with Queens Council on the Arts, DanceNow NYC will select 15-25 Queens-based artists to perform works in progress. This informal studio showing is intended principally for first-time applicants and for dance makers who have never participated in DanceNow NY's festival.

MEDIA: ALL ACCESS
Thursday, June 19, 1:00 - 5:00 PM
A media fair featuring presentations and discussions with editors, reporters, and publishers from both traditional media outlets and online resources. A panel of industry professionals will review pre-selected press kits submitted by artists.
