An interactive peer-review workshop that provides choreographers and dancers the opportunity to present video documentation of their work for critique by experts in the field. The panel will lead a discussion on the best ways to document dance pieces on film for venues, festivals, and funding applications based on five pre-selected video submissions.
Panelists
Valerie Green, Artistic Director, Dance Entropy; Dance Videographer, Green Space Studio
Valerie Green received special training in video for dance at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She was the video apprentice to the American Dance Festival in 1995 and 1996. For the past 12 years she has archived dance in New York City for independent choreographers and large and small dance companies.
Steven Hitt, Managing Director, LaGuardia Community College Performing Arts Center
Steven Hitt holds an MFA from the University of Florida and a BFA from the University of Montevallo. As a performer, Hitt has appeared on Broadway and in the international company of A Chorus Line, danced at the Met with American Ballet Theatre in Sleeping Beauty, sung at Carnegie Hall, and appeared onstage at the Apollo.
Jodi Kaplan, Founder, Jodi Kaplan & Associates Booking Agency
Jodi Kaplan founded Jodi Kaplan & Associates in 1993 as a personal "boutique agency" that books dance companies on extensive tours throughout the world. Kaplan has booked millions of dollars in contracted performance engagements and has relationships with hundreds of venues. As an artist, Kaplan has produced and directed several award-winning shorts that have screened at over one hundred festivals, museums, and venues.
Dorian Nuskind-Oder, Program Associate, DanceNow NYC
Dorian Nuskind-Oder works as a freelance videographer, editor, and online media consultant for a number of choreographers and organizations, including DanceNow NYC and Jenny Rocha. She has overseen the creation of projections for live dance performance by POW! Arts and Alethea Adsitt and Company. A member of Chris Elam's Misnomer Dance Theater for three seasons, Nuskind-Oder has presented her own choreography at the Chen Dance Center and Joyce Soho, among other venues.
Marýa Wethers, Associate Producer, Dance Theater Workshop; manager for Zimabwean solo dance artist Nora Chipaumire
Marya Wethers has served as a booking agent/artist representative at Pentacle, a marketing associate at Danspace Project, and a company manager for nicholasleichterdance. Wethers curated the Out of Space @ BRICstudio series for Danspace Project from 2003 to 2007.

Submissions should be 3-5 minutes. Please note that this workshop is directed toward the documentation of dance pieces, not narrative or artistic films involving dance. Only a limited number of submissions will be discussed at the workshop. A submission is not required for registration.

DANCENOW QUEENS RAW FESTIVAL
DanceNow NYC is hosting a Raw Festival exclusively for Queens-based performing
artists on April 13 at the Dance Theater Workshop studios. The Raw
Festival studio series provides a no-tech platform for artists to be
seen by DanceNow NYC producers and advisors as well as the public.
In collaboration with Queens Council on the Arts, DanceNow NYC will
select 15-25 Queens-based artists to perform works in progress. This
informal studio showing is intended principally for first-time applicants
and for dance makers who have never participated in DanceNow NYC's
