What is the High School to Art School Program?

   

The High School to Art School program (HS2AS) is a free portfolio development program aimed at developing and fostering an in-depth understanding of art, while guiding NYC high school students through the art college application process. Having served high school students of all backgrounds in the greater NYC area for over a decade, HS2AS has helped over 800 students reach their goal of being accepted into the best art programs and colleges throughout the country.

 

In the past HS2AS students have been accepted to:

Alfred University, American University, Boston University, Cal Arts, Carnegie Mellon, The Cooper Union, Cornell University, Emily Carr,  The Fashion Institute of Technology, George Washington University, Hunter College, Ithaca College, Macaulay Honors CUNY, NYU Steinhart, Pratt , Parsons, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Rhode Island School of Design, SCAD, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, The School of Visual Arts, and more.

What do students learn in class?

Students are taught the basics of 2 dimensional design, 3 dimensional design, color theory, art history, with a heavy emphasis on drawing.  In studio classes are supplemented by artist talks, workshops, museum and gallery trips.

Who teaches HS2AS classes?

Our instructors are practicing artists living and working in New York. All our instructors either graduates or students of the Cooper Union.

When are classes held?

Spring Semester (Open to all NYC high school sophomores and juniors)

Program Dates: March 10th- May 19th

Saturday •  11:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Location: Queens Museum of Art

 

Summer Semester (Open to all NYC high school sophomores and juniors)

Program Dates: Late June- Mid August

Every Monday-Thursday

10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Fall Senior Intensive Program ( Open to all NYC high school seniors)

Program Dates: October- February

Thursday, 4:30-7:30pm

Saturday, 11:00 am-4:00 pm

How much does it cost to attend?

High School to Art School is a completely free merit based program.  All class materials are provided by HS2AS.

Do I need to have prior art experience?

Absolutely not. We understand students come to HS2AS with different experiences with art, although it’s nice to see good drawing skills, it’s not necessary.  We just expect all our potential students to be dedicated and passionate about art.  That’s the key!
